Can I use my FSA or HSA for the monthly fee?
Ask your employer! Your employer determines how FSA and HSA money is spent. Remember to mention to them that Luna Direct Primary Care membership is not an insurance.
Why does it matter what kind of insurance plan I have if Luna DPC does not bill my insurance?
Though your insurance will not be billed for office visits (these will all be covered under your membership fee), you will need your insurance to cover labs/imaging/specialist visits. Your insurance will need to allow for out of network doctors to order labs/imaging and place referrals (or more commonly not require insurance referral to see specialist). Typically PPO style plans don't require in network doctors and HMO style plans do. In most cases PPO style plans will work best with DPC. Medicare does have a provision that will allow out of network doctors to order and refer. Please make sure that if you have a Medicare supplement that it does not require in network doctors to orders or refer (PPO and Medex style plans work best).
Will I have a copay for an office visit?
Nope! Your membership fee covers all of your visits.
How many office visits can I have a year?
As many as you need.
Does my membership allow me to have access to you 24/7?
No. I am a human too :) I need to eat, sleep, rest, have fun, etc. That said, Monday through Friday you will have access to me from 8am to 8pm via phone or text for anything. You can email me anytime and is the preferred method of communication for non-urgent matters. You can see me in the office during business hours and occasionally outside of business hours on a case by case basis. You can also call or text after those hours for urgent matters. The office phone is always redirected to my personal cell phone. So if you call or text the office at 3am, you are calling or texting me, on the cellphone that is on my nightstand at 3am. If that is when you remember that you need a refill, want to schedule an appointment, or have a non-urgent question, just shoot me an email instead and it will be addressed the next business day. If you really do need my attention at 3am, it is ok to call. If you need something over the weekend call or text me, I am available for urgent matters (including if you are out of medication and need a refill before the next business day). Send me an email if it is something that you don't need until Monday and I will take care of it then. Same goes for holidays.
Will you have same day appointments?
Yes. During the week I will have same day appointments. If you don't see an appointment available on the online scheduler, just shoot me a text and I will find you a spot that works for you. Sometimes you pick the kids up from daycare and find out they have pink eye at 4pm, I get it, just shoot me a text.
Do you have a medical assistant? call center? or secretary?
No, no and no. I will be greeting you for your appointments, gathering your history, checking your vital signs and answering your calls/texts/emails personally. Appointments will be scheduled with buffers in between visits so that there is no waiting in the waiting room for your appointment (or very minimal on rare occasions, I'm not perfect haha). If you call or text me while I am with a patient, leave a message and I will return your call/text as soon as I am available. If you need something urgently while I am with a patient, text me the word "Urgent" and I will stop the appointment I am in and take your call.
Will you be able to communicate with my specialists?
Yes. Just as they always have, they can send me notes from your visits via electronic fax. I will also have time to take their call if we need to speak over the phone or to initiate a call to them. You can use specialists from any hospital group or independent practice that you would like. I can help you find the right specialist for you.
Will you give vaccines?
Yes, for children only. Vaccines will be provided at no cost to children through the state vaccine program. For adults, please get your vaccinations at your local pharmacy.
Can I pay annually instead of monthly?
Yes, you can choose whether you want to billed annually or monthly. If you pay annually there is a 10% discount given.
Do you offer family discounts?
Yes, for a family with more than 2 children, each additional child will be $10 with the sign up of at least 1 adult parent.
What happens when you are on vacation?
I will send you an email the week before I have a planned vacation to let you know that I will be out of the office. While I'm on vacation you can still contact me for urgent matters. Everything that we can handle remotely, we will. I will be checking my email and business phone once in the morning and once in the early evening everyday on vacation. If you need to be seen in person while I am on vacation, this would be one of the rare times that you would need to go to an Urgent Care. This, honestly, is not really different than when I was on vacation while I was employed, most often the covering doctor would be sending you to the urgent care as well.
Do you practice functional medicine?
No. There are some great functional medicine docs in the area though and I can point you in the right direction.
